SUMMARY:Dayton ASHRAE Chapter Meeting (Joint with MCA/SMACNA)
DESCRIPTION:Presentation: How to Properly Specify and Design Plate and Frame Heat Exchangers \nPresenter: Tracey Putnam\, Commercial Markets Sales Manager for Alfa Laval \nTheme: Joint Meeting with MCA/SMACNA \nSocial Time: 11:30-11:55 AM\nChapter Business/Introductions: 11:55 AM – 12:00 PM\nLunch/Main Presentation: 12:00 PM \nPresenter Bio:\nTracey Putnam holds a degree in Chemical Engineering from Penn State University. She began her career as a process engineer at a toll manufacturer where she was responsible for new product start-ups. This provided initial exposure into what is involved in procuring equipment\, operator training and commissioning a new process. She spent the first 9 years of her career at Alfa Laval as an applications engineer focusing on technology conversion and energy efficiency within the Petrochemical and Refining markets. In 2010\, Tracey transitioned to the Commercial side of the business and has been concentrated on Comfort cooling ever since. Her mission is to educate the engineering community on how to properly specify plate heat exchangers to optimize energy usage\, reduce maintenance requirements and total cost of ownership. \nTopic Description:\nDesigning a plate and frame heat exchanger is not as straightforward as it may seem. We all understand the principles of heat transfer\, however fluid mechanics play a very large role in the performance and uptime of a heat exchanger. An improperly designed heat exchanger will cause other equipment to work harder and increase the energy consumption in the HVAC system – we must learn to look beyond the initial capital investment and consider the total cost of ownership. AHRI has helped to standardize manufacturers’ designs but there are parameters that engineers must still consider and verify. In today’s presentation we will discuss:\n•	Basic heat transfer theory\n•	The effects of temperature approach on the size and cost of a heat exchanger\n•	Hydraulic design and its effect on performance\, fouling and total cost of ownership\n•	AHRI – what it is and when it’s applicable

He also spends time educating and supporting supermarkets and industry on refrigeration trends and technologies and holds 8 patents.\nMike holds a B.S. in mechanical engineering and an M.S. in mechanical engineering from the University of Idaho. \nTopic Description:\nRefrigeration codes and standards are ever evolving. Recent changes (both proposed and final) in UL 60335-2-89 and ASHRAE 15 allow the use of flammable refrigerants (A2L\, A3) in commercial refrigeration. With the drive to lower the carbon footprint of supermarkets\, new refrigerant options are allowing more choices for sustainable system solutions for supermarkets. Natural refrigerants are a viable option for many\, and are a part of this basket of choices. This talk will to review and discuss the latest in regulations\, standards and codes\, refrigerant approvals\, and their impact on sustainable low GWP supermarket refrigeration system architectures. \nJoin Zoom Meeting Information:\nhttps://us02web.zoom.us/j/83563917108?pwd=UWp3UjNNeXliMEs4WENpaHhSRlpVZz09 \nMeeting ID: 835 6391 7108\nPasscode: 722449\nOne tap mobile\n+13017158592\,\,83563917108#\,\,\,\,*722449# US (Washington DC)\n+13126266799\,\,83563917108#\,\,\,\,*722449# US (Chicago) \nDial by your location\n +1 301 715 8592 US (Washington DC)\n +1 312 626 6799 US (Chicago)\n +1 646 558 8656 US (New York)\n +1 253 215 8782 US (Tacoma)\n +1 346 248 7799 US (Houston)\n +1 669 900 9128 US (San Jose)\nMeeting ID: 835 6391 7108\nPasscode: 722449\nFind your local number: https://us02web.zoom.us/u/ke3HXyb0
